A fixture of Harper's Ferry Historic Park, the Black Voices Museum highlights the area's rich African-American history, particularly in regards to the Civil War and the bloody actions of abolitionist John Brown. Period costumes, weaponry, and other artifacts are supplemented by a distinctly human element in the form of National Park interpreters and living history performers. The museum lies in the heart of the park, which lies about 50 miles northwest of downtown Washington.
